A kinetic jellyfish that pauses the mind
Jellyfish Fermata is a kinetic art installation that invites visitors to slow down, breathe, and meditate with the pulsing movement. LAAB hacked thirteen umbrellas to create the skeletons of the jellyfish-like installation. Dressed in feather-weight silk, each robotic jellyfish moves independently, with animated lighting corresponds to the rhythm of music.
Created in 2014 during social movement in Hong Kong, the robotic jellyfish engages people’s emotions by orchestrating a steady tempo through its movement, changing hues, and illumination, creating a calming space for visitors to breathe and reflect on the political future of Hong Kong. The artwork was later exhibited at the Shenzhen new media art festival.
