Pulsing with the electric rhythm of horse-racing

Together with Vantage, the Beat is one of the twin concept bars and entertainment venues at the Happy Valley Racecourse of the Hong Kong Jockey Club.  The Beat’s design pulses with the electric rhythm of horse racing — all elements orchestrated to amplify the sport’s crescendo of excitement and triumph.

Like a racing heart at the starting gate, the lobby captures the thrilling cadence of horse racing, where time and motion converge in a dynamic tunnel of light.   The open ceiling is adorned with subtle, monochromatic LED lights that choreograph an immersive ambiance, extending the time tunnel experience across the venue.

At the heart of the Beat is a luminous bar with a barrisol lantern and a scrolling digital menu that keeps time with the venue’s dynamic energy.   An array of OLED screens punctuates the space like digital drumbeats, their real-time race data adding to the Beat’s technological tempo.

The overall materiality is defined by a refined rawness where glass-encased concrete elements meet sleek stainless-steel frames — a harmonized duet of industrial and sophisticated designs.  CNC-milled surfaces undulate across the walls in a wavy pattern that weaves light and shadow to portray the fluid motion of horses in full gallop.

The space opens to an uninterrupted panoramic view of the racecourse, like a crescendo reaching its peak.  The open plan also enables a natural flow of social encounters and spontaneous conversations.   Seating is versatile, with bespoke modular sofas that can be recomposed for various events.

The Beat also features tailor-made furniture pieces that resonate with equestrian culture — the stools feature saddle-like seats with intricate bridle details, and the sofas are upholstered with diamond-quilted saddle cloth, while funnel-shaped glass tables provide their own optical syncopation.

Towards the finishing line, the journey culminates at a floor-to-ceiling LED backdrop and stage, where live performances amplify the space’s rhythmic cadence.   This pulsing energy flows seamlessly throughout the venue, creating an immersive experience that moves to the beat of sport and celebration, from the main space to the most intimate corners.
