The Red Boat is a floating art installation made of 1288 windmills that hovers above the atrium of Xiqu Centre in West Kowloon Cultural District. Inspired by the history of the Cantonese Opera, the installation takes the form of the Red Boat, which was the earliest theatre boat for opera performers who toured around the Guangdong Region in the 1800s and early 1900s. As the wind comes in, the windmills spin which subtly moves the hanging structure. Together with the ground exhibition below, The Red Boat explores the relationship between art, nature, and history.
