Transforming a residual mall space into a public space

The Hysan Reading Pavilion is an indoor shelter that activates the under-utilized transitional lobby on the 9/F of Hysan Place in Causeway Bay. Adjacent to the Eslite bookstore on the same floor, the Reading Pavilion provides a much-needed reading and resting space for patrons of the book shop and the general public. The trellis structure defines the space while letting the sunlight go through from the tall glass façade. A curvilinear island platform with integrated seating provides gathering space for groups of different sizes.

Bespoke tables and stools made by LAAB celebrate design and artisanal craftsmanship. The triangular tables can be combined into multiple configurations for different group sizes. The long bar along the window offers a seated vantage point that overlooks the busy Causeway Bay.
