ADD+ is the all-day-dining restaurant located on the promenade level of M+ Museum with a panoramic harbor view. Inheriting the glass facade of the promenade, we define the interior space with a zig-zag one-way mirror wall arranged in a super-elliptical curve. The glass wall reflects and folds the promenade in unexpected ways, producing multiple ways of seeing the skyline. From a certain perspective, one can see three IFCs juxtapose with each other.
The eternal unfolding of the mirror democratizes the harbor view that was once the privilege of those who sit close to the window. As one approaches the mirror, the reflection of the self disappears and reappears in myriad ways. Five openings were created to reveal the creative process of cooking, juxtaposing culinary art with the folded harbor view. As the sun sets, the reflected skyline diminishes, the glass wall is transformed into an array of illuminated wood panels to curate a warm ambiance for dinner.
Inspired by the tables of Cha Chaan Tang—Hong Kong-style cafés, the dichroic dining tabletop at ADD+ radiates multiple color spectrum to echo the colorful visual identity of the M+ Museum. Meanwhile, the table mats and glass top projects an array of “+” on the ceiling.
Collaborating with Stella Works, the bespoke dining chairs feature a minimal design that embraces Asian sensibility with soft organic upholstery hugged by the chairs’ solid oak timber frame.
Intersecting the mirror wall is a 16-meter-long cantilever bar bridging the museum entrance with the promenade entrance. A hanging timber shelf was designed as a gallery of liquor, offering a warmer tone to harmonize the concrete and the glass interior.
